As a teaser for some more detailed Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure news that we will be bringing you next week during E3, Activision has released some character vignettes, which tell us a little more about the characters that are set to feature in the game’s starter pack. Skylanders Spyro’s adventure involves real life toys, which players will have to place on the Portal of Power to bring them into the game. The three toy characters that come in the starter pack are: Spyro, Gill Grunt and Trigger Happy. We have some information and some short clips where players can see all three characters in action.

Skylanders Spyro's Adventure is an Action-Adventure game spin-off from the Spyro series designed for younger players that unlocks a whole new game universe while incorporating a unique gameplay mechanic utilizing more than 30 physical action figures that synch with consoles creating in-game character representations. The first release in the Skylander series, Skylanders Spyro's Adventure Starter Pack contains three action figures, an exclusive game peripheral as well as other items. Action figures are compatible with all versions of the game. The game features co-op and competitive multiplayer, mini-games and more.

The Skylanders Story

For generations, the Skylanders -- a diverse group of mythical creatures, each with their own powers, personality and tendencies -- have used their magical powers, weapons and levelable battle skills to protect their homeland, the Skylands. But now, an evil tyrant with the powers of a portal master has frozen and banished them to Earth. Only you, a portal master yourself, can physically put Skylanders on the Portal of Power -- a conduit between this world and theirs -- and bring them back to life in their world where they can battle to save Skylands forever.

Action Figures with Brains

Skylanders are special physical action figures that come to life in-game. One of the most beautiful hidden object games to come out in 2010, Mystery of Mortlake Mansion features superb animation and a unique hand-drawn art style presented with detailed high-resolution graphics.

Typical of haunted house stories, you receive an urgent letter from a distant relative and soon find yourself locked in a mansion trying to find a way out. As you progress from room to room solving puzzles and finding objects to open doors and secret pathways, it's not long before you discover the owner was working on a way to travel to another dimension. Without spoiling any surprises, the things you soon discover are quite innovative and make for a unique and thoroughly enjoyable experience.

While there are some spooky ghosts and villains it's not a violent game so all but the youngest kids should enjoy it. The hints come easy for casual players like me so hidden object pros may want to jump straight to the harder difficulty if they want a challenge. Puzzles weren't particularly difficult except some "web untangling" puzzles toward the end. If you find yourself stuck you can skip the puzzle after a brief time. The game features a clever map system that highlights room(s) with puzzles that need solving. You can also jump from room to room via the map if you don't want to backtrack through the mansion.

My gripes are minor. First, the voice actors talk really slow and are not very convincing. Some of the voices start to grate on the nerves after a while. Fortunately, you can skip through them. You'll also run into a few odd translation errors on occasion as this is a foreign made game. Finally, even though I loved the unique art, it is quite different from the norm and may be off putting for some so check the screenshots for examples to help you decide.

You'll need a slightly better than average computer to run the game. If you bought a "cheap" computer a while ago it'll be a good idea to start with the trial to make sure the game runs okay. Assuming it does, you're in for a treat. Enjoy!

Dungeon Defenders is fantastic, it is truly one of the most addictive and fun games around right now. I found myself LAN'ing it with a group of friends for almost twenty four hours straight. It is simple in its implementation but the large amount of activity generated by constant rummaging for better gear and the upgrading of weapons, armor and pets in order to maximize your characters ability to hit stuff or its towers ability to hit stuff is just overall incredibly satisfying. The only thing this game could possibly have to make it better are the 2 extra characters unlocked that they are planning on releasing. If your considering parting with the small amount of money this game will set you back, don't even worry about it. You will be glad you bought the game.

Shortly before I wrote this review I finished The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, and I wanted to wait a while and collect my thoughts before I posted this for others to see, to fairly assess my experience. After a few hours, I can't really say anything great about this game other than the graphics until I've played through the whole thing again. Though I still don't know if that's a good thing.. This isn't your average RPG, your average action game, your average fantasy setting, your average... anything really.

One Sentence Review (TL;DR): An exceptional game with some painful flaws but a twisting narrative to equal a memorable experience. (That really isn't for kids. The M rating isn't playing around)

GRAPHICS:

This game is, in one word, beautiful. The graphical power is among the best ever made (there with Crysis and Metro 2033), however its use of those graphics to make memorable and engaging environments is sort of the anti-Metro 2033. It's just immersing and atmospheric, but in a fanciful sense instead of a grim and oppressive one. The character models are excellent and for the main characters expresses a lot about them.

STORY:

Our "hero" (and he is only this in a very loose sense of the word) is Geralt of Rivia, an amnesiac Witcher (a professional monster hunter, basically) trying to piece back together his life and memory, but being in the wrong place at the wrong time forces him into circumstances that prevent his leaving. What follows is a couple dozen hour adventure into a tangled criss-cross of many peoples' and factions' various power schemes vying for political control of the Northern Kingdoms, with Geralt often landing smack in the center of it all. The main draw here is the many points in the game where you make decisions on where the story heads next, best shown by the fact that depending on what you do in Chapter 1, Chapter 2 and 3 are very, very different (even taking place somewhere else entirely).

Due to the sheer amount of information you receive, you'll just have trouble remembering which ones you're talking about. You'll need to keep a pad of paper and pencil handy as names of people and places are often given without context, and the games journal which gives you a breakdown of these is not accessible mid-conversation, often leading to situations where you'll have to make game altering choices about things when you're not entirely sure you know what's going on. To give an example, at one point a character says "Rachel betrayed me! That jerk!", Rachel being an NPC you were introduced to about 3~5 hours earlier and who has not been mentioned since then. Thankfully with the games roleplaying options Geralt can be played as indifferent about these developments as you might be.

GAMEPLAY:

A note on the prologue: The most recent patch has made the prologue much more forgiving for people new to the game, and all the complaints you'll read about it no longer really apply.

Combat is a free-flowing melee game similar to Arkham Asylum but with swords and magic, and while the combat is often very satisfying it lacks the visceral punch Batman brought to that series, and with the added RPG elements it brings some issues. There are 3 trees that our main character Geralt can specialize in, and each has its own flaw to annoy you from time to time.

The first is Alchemy, Geralt can brew dozens of potions with varying affects on him in combat, specializing in these allows you to drink more potions and to increase what they do. However, these potions only last a few minutes, cannot be drunk in combat and often cannot be drunk in areas where combat is likely to happen, meaning that much of the time you are fighting you might not even be able to use the strengths your character is playing to. Next are the Signs, Geralts version of magic. The spells are pretty cool and varied, but Geralt sometimes doesn't like to cast signs when you tell him to, leaving me in a sputtering rage as he dies because he was lazy. Last up is swordplay. You'd think, how could this be messed up? Well, it sort of is. If you don't lock onto your targets you will happily bound around the arena slashing at whoever Geralt feels like attacking, often resulting in you getting your stuffing beat out from behind because you rolled past 4 guys to hit your target.

Added onto this are several instances of poorly designed encounters, some of which you WILL have to die and reload to learn the strategies for so that you can defeat them. Most annoying of which are the quicktime events, which are pretty small and a dull orange color, which is really problematic as some of the events occur in environments that are mostly orange. It's pretty annoying. Once you get past these issues or just between times when Geralt's controls get you killed the combat is very satisfying and blowing up monsters and stabbing dudes is just fun.

I'd like to give this game a 3-Star rating due to the sheer number of times I was vexed by some poor game design, however for an experience this responsive to the players will and as a game that is obviously a labor of love, it deserves that 4th star. You just need to know what you're getting into.

I never really thought I would like sims at all, but then I was visiting my friends and they got me addicted to the sims 3, so when I got home I tried to download it for pc and it would say "sorry somthing is not working please try agian later"! so far I've tried to download it for 2 days but it keeps saying the same thing, I keep thinking its the company because i have been able to put other things in my cart! But I'm still going to keep trying because it was soooo much FUN!

I was really looking forward to playing this game, waited with great anticipation and then they came up with this Origin crap. We all knew Origin was going to be used but reading about the general terms of Origin was shocking for me. Forcing players to agree giving EA full access to their pc (still means personal computer --> which it should be -.-) just is not acceptable. I preordered the game but I am no longer sure if I really want to play it because of this spyware called Origin...
