Highland games

Highland games - a festival that is held throughout the calendar year throughout Scotland and in other countries as a tribute to Celtic and Scottish culture and great heritage. Many elements of this annual festival has already passed into the category of national symbols, as happened with bagpipes, kilts.

Like many centuries ago Highland games centered around sporting events, and all other events, such as songs, music and dancing were more for fun, but making up a whole with the sports part of the holiday. One of these events, namely, throwing logs became a symbol of games. Despite the fact that often the list of sporting events can vary, some of them are already firmly entrenched in it. For example:

Throwing logs. Long deprived of knots and branches or the trunk of a log is placed vertically, after which the party has taken over its smaller end and is trying to keep it upright on the weight. After that party runs forward and throws his beam so that (ideally) it turned in the air, so that the larger (upper end) fell to the ground, and more than a small one (the one who was holding a party) fell to the ground so way that all the logs fell by exactly 12 hours (that is commensurate with the direction of the party before throwing).

Throwing stones. This match is very similar to throwing the nucleus, which we can see at the Olympics, but here instead of a steel core throw a huge stone from the Olympic Games Scottish throwing stones, and two different acceptable techniques: "throwing bremar stone" and "throwing open".

Hammer Throw. This competition is also very much like that seen in the modern Olympics, though still there are some differences. In the Scottish version of a round metal ball attached to a wooden stick 4 feet long. Participant becomes a rack and spins the hammer over his head and tosses it over his right or left shoulder. Hammer throwers often use special shoes equipped with mounting blades to poustoychivee stand on the turf and keep your balance at the time of the throw.

Throw weights. In the Scottish games, there are two separate types of throwing the weight. Weights are made of metal and equipped with a handle, attached directly to Gyra, or connected with the latter by a chain. A participant may cast a weight of only one hand, but can use any technique throw. The winner is the party, threw a weight at the greatest distance.

Throwing the sheaves. Bundle of straw weighing 20 pounds (9 kg) wrapped in cloth jerking upward with pitchforks, winning party, which was above all a sheaf toss.
